Well this past Sunday as I was still recovering from a horrible sinus infection I was introduced to a smart and very tense game called Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes. The game is a hybrid computer/tabletop game. The object is to diffuse a bomb, but the catch is that in order to do that one has to use the bomb manual to which another player, or players is looking at and interpreting for the bomb defuser. The real catch is that the person defusing the bomb cannot look at the manual and the people using the manual may not look at the bomb. It's every movie cliche where the master bomb defuser is talking on how to defuse the bomb over the phone to some rookie or civilian. The game itself is incredibly tense and requires a lot of coordination/communication between parties, and even then even a small slip up could cause disaster. Did I also mention that the bomb manual is not that well written and confusing? Just to add to the complications. The game though is a lot of fun and is best played with a group. You had a very long day patrolling the palisades against bandits and hooligans of all kinds. All you want to do now is choke down the cheap ale that you can barely afford on your guard salary. This one simple pleasure is currently being robbed from you by that horrid halfling who won't stop ranting his poetic lyrics about the escapades of some heroic character who never cut a guy like you any slack. If only someone would outlaw these garbage minstrels like the bandits they really are.
